چکیده

Sketch maps are an intuitive way of expressing geospatial information. They contain objects which represent real world geographic features, relations between these objects, and oftentimes symbolic and textual annotations (Blaser [2]). These elements enable us to use sketch maps to communicate about our environments and to reason about our actions in those environments. In this way sketch maps provide an intuitive user interaction modality for some geospatial computer applications (Egenhofer [4]). Especially with the advent of Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI) (Goodchild [6]) sketch maps may be the key to removing the barriers imposed by the technical requirements of traditional Geographic Information Systems (GIS) (Schwering [1]). VGI is, essentially, geographic information contributed by individuals or groups of individuals to a shared information resource on a voluntary basis [6]. A good example of the application of sketch maps in VGI is the walking papers 1 project in which sketch maps are being used to contribute both thematic and geometric data to the openstreetmap 2 database. The process involves sketching over a bar coded printout of some tiles of the openstreetmap data and then scanning it back into

A Reliable Qualitative Information for the Alignment of Sketch and Metric Maps

Sketch maps are externalizations of cognitive maps which are typically distorted, schematized, incomplete, and generalized. Processing spatial information from sketch maps automatically requires reliable formalizations which are not subject to schematization, distortion or other cognitive effects in sketch maps. Based on previous empirical work, the authors identified different sketch aspects s...

PhD proposal

In this proposal I’d like to present my idea and vision of a possible PhD project in the fields of computer science. First, the reader is introduced into the topic. Then, a short sketch of the project is drawn. Furthermore, I want to complete this proposal by giving some reasons concerning non-technical challenges for embedding this PhD into an interdisciplinary environment within the research ...

An Empirical Study on Relevant Aspects for Sketch Map Alignment

Sketch maps are drawn from memories and they are in general schematized and distorted. However, the schematizations and distortions are not random. They are a consequence during the cognitive process of perceiving, memorizing and producing spatial layout. This paper describes an empirical study to investigate the impact of distortions on similarity perception. The study is designed as a human-s...

Application of 3D-QSAR on a Series of Potent P38-MAP Kinase Inhibitors

One of the most applied methods in drug industry for development of new drugs is 3D-QSAR methodology. As p38-mitogen-activated protein kinase (p38-MAPK) plays a crucial role in regulating the production of such proinflammatory cytokines as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-1, emerging as an attractive target for new anti-inflammatory agents, we used a 3D-QSAR based method of Compa...
